our butoh retreat on June 25 th - July 8th, 2023

in the beautiful lush green space of

Jungle Dance Theatre, Goa.

 

The retreat program will include 3 - 6 hours of butoh practice a day;

we will look into the foundational principles of butoh philosophy and technique, will learn about butoh-fu dance notation, developed by Tatsumi Hijikata,

will feel inspired by poetic improvisational notations of Kazuo Ohno and Yoshito Ohno,

will calm, heal and reset our body-mind with Japanese bodywork Noguchi Taiso and Noguchi Seitai used by various butoh troupes throughout Japan,

and through allowing ourselves to dive deeper into our subconscious dance body,

we will discover our own unique butoh which will result in a butoh performance on the last day.

 

The course will also include lectures on the emergence of butoh against the background of Japanese avanguard art in the 60-s. We will have some free morning and evenings for contemplation, walks and the most beautiful sunsets that happen in June.
